KC0KVG News and Events.

Hello this is KB0STE, Dave from Le Mars Iowa.  We are in Northwest Iowa about 25 miles north of the Nebrasks border and about the same distance from South Dakota.  Our town has the distinction of producing more ice cream than any other town in the United States.

Our club is small but our goal is big, to once again bring this hobbie the attention it deserves.  With cell phones and various voice over the internet protocol some think this hobbie is dying.  When disaster hits, cell phone communication is out, weather conditions cause satellite communications to go down hams are ready able and are filling the communication gap.

Our goal is to be a "gap filler", to renew interest in using radio in preparation for emergencies, spreading national and international good will.  We need to be "Elmer's" to each other and to try to develope the love of expermentation in electronics to the next generation.  As a teacher my goal was always to lead the next generation to become productive members of the community at large; hams need to do that in "our Community"!

The Snack Shack; Tidbits to think about

Traveling and want to take HF along?  Check out the monoband transcievers from MFJ.  These are analog units, very compact and can be operated with a power adapter or rechargable cells.

Don't forget to use 146.520 simplex when not in range of a repeater.

What kits have you put together lately?  Be a mentor and build a kit; with your children or someone elses.

Check out the weather in Le Mars, Iowa and your part of the world.  This site is interactive.

Real hams also do "CQ 100 and Echolink".  Friends think of those "old timers" who are in care centers and have no way to get ham equipment up.  We have learned much from them, lets not discourage them by downplaying VOIP modes when it is there last link to amateur radio.  For some who have no familes or they are far away, ham radio is their link to the outside.

Well I did it; got my Extra Class May 2, 2008
